The Emergency Manager of Corson County is Michael W. Varilek.  

The duties of the Emergency Manager are set by South Dakota Codified Law.  The Emergency Manage is the conduit between the County Commissioners, the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  

The Emergency Manager is responsible for maintaining lists of resources and first responders within the county and surrounding area, assisting with emergency situations, conducting training exercises focusing on Response, Mitigation, Preparation, and Recovery - the four phases of disaster/incident response.
